The Great Commission

December 25, 2007

Matthew 28:18-20 “And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’ “

We have recently completed our first year of partnership with Sermonaudio.com to broadcast our sermons over the Internet. The library of logged sermons currently contains 83 sermons dating from 1/22/06. These messages are available to anyone around the world (with an internet connection and Mp3 listening capability) at anytime and absolutely free of charge. The partnership was initiated in order to make Tony’s messages more available to friends, family, and prospective Church visitors in the area. Little did we anticipate the potential distribution both in terms of quantity and geographical scope. The initial results are absolutely amazing. I can almost hear the words echo, “O ye of little faith.”

In this first year (12/06-11/07), 2,441 sermons were accessed in streaming audio, or were downloaded, by people from 44 states (totaling 1686 units) and 31 foreign nations (at 755 units). The national distribution is interesting to track, because I wonder about how the possible connections were made, but the international distribution is mind boggling. It is exciting to think of our small congregation reaching out to places like the United Arab Emirates (5), Netherlands (10), South Africa (10), or Singapore (12). Sermon series available are The Gospel Driven Church, Big Truths from Small Letters, Elijah and Ahab, the 2007 Bible Conference, and the ongoing Gospel Centered Family series.

Two self exhortations immediately come to mind. First, I must be praying before, during, and after each sermon has been preached. My prayers should be for the messenger, for the message, and for those immediately listening as well as those who will remotely access the messages. Second, I must be diligent to see that I am appropriately accessing the message to my eternal benefit. It would be a shame to sit under the faithful preaching of the Word and to waste the opportunity by walking away an unchanged man while others much farther away benefit eternally.
