Life Lessons from John Newton

January 7, 2009

I read during the holidays John Newton’s autobiography, Out of the Depths. Here’s the one thought that shone out from nearly every page: John Newton has a deep, tender affection for 1) God’s mercy to him and 2) God’s providence in every moment of his life. He lives in constant recognition of God’s gracious hand in everything.

It’s actually a rather short read, but one in which you could soak for an hour in every page. Make friends with this guy! Pray that his spirit rubs off on you.
