God’s Providence 1 : : from John Calvin

January 23, 2009

One of the bedrocks for truly understanding life is what the Scriptures say about God’s providence. John Calvin lays out beautifully in The Institutes a biblical picture of God’s powerful, active, preserving hand. In a series of posts, I’m simply going to record here several quotes that should all move us to worship, adore, and rejoice in our God.

By faith we understand that the universe was created by the Word of God (Heb 11:3) . . . but faith ought to penetrate more deeply, namely, having found him Creator of all, forthwith to conclude he is also everlasting Governor and Perserver . . . in that he sustains, nourishes, and cares for, everything he has made, even to the least sparrow (Matt 10:29).
