Pride vs. Unbelief

I was listening to a sermon by David Powlison. The connection of unbelief and pride never seemed so clear as his description.

Unbelief, he says, is the act of erasing God from your mind and your life. It’s the suppressing of the truth of his reality and your relationship to him. Pride, then, is the filling of your mind, life, and personal kingdom with high thoughts of yourself, and living and doing everything for yourself.
Pride and unbelief, therefore, are 2 sides of the same coin: the emptying of allegiance to God on the one hand, and the filling of that vacuum with allegiance to yourself on the other.
